FHQ is revamping volunteer positions, etc. Don't have my email in front of me right now about the specifics, but you may just need to sit tight and wait until spring.
I've been volunteering for 2 years now and I think my 'position' goes away and falls into something else in the future so I will also have to 'reapply' for volunteering.
