I know that something like this depends on the school.
At some schools, chapters openly advertise informal events and don't mind if you contact them.
At others, informal may be invite-only and not advertised, so it would not be a good idea to contact them.
Even if it is considered ok to contact a sorority, I think a letter of interest may be a bit much.
Perhaps your Greek Life office may know more about ow to go about it.
