My my my! It took me probably around an hour and a half, close to two hours to read through this thread. Throughout it all, Corina, I've been extremely impressed with your dedication. Your dedication will be rewarded many times over in the coming years. How does the term "Founder of Nu Beta Omicron" sound? Or perhaps, one of the founding initiates in whatever chapter of a national organization you eventually become.
There is one thing that I would like to suggest, however. Other friends on this board have said it before but perhaps not quite enough attention has been given to it. Spend energy on
building sisterhood. Part of that includes ritual. As a brother in Phi Delta Theta, I cannot tell you how full of pride and humility I was on the day of my initiation, April 20, 2002, when the ritual and secrets of a fraternity over 150 years old were revealed to me. We've performed ritual at our meetings, which only helps strengthen the brotherhood we share. I feel it is an important part of an esoteric (secret) organization.
I know how affiliating with an NPC organization seems extremely important to you - but above all, what will carry you through your college career is sisterhood. Make those bonds stronger than
anything that may try to break them.
In any case, you're welcome to IM me on AIM (SN: Xanthuos) if you wanna talk about anything. Don't let the fact that I became a Greek very recently fool you. The TN Zeta chapter of Phi Delta Theta had an extremely rigorous Phikeia (pledge) program this semester...that, and my big brother is the current chapter President. I've been trained well!
Special thanks to my "sister sorors" (I'm guessing you're both Delta Zetas? Does sister sorors even sound right? LoL) dzsaigirl and dzrose93 for clarifying why certain organizations, such as Phi Delta Theta, strongly discourage the use of "frat" to refer to a fraternity. It's OK that you didn't know Corina - every day, I find myself politely asking someone new to refer to it as a fraternity.
This is my first post to Greek Chat. I hope that I can make some wonderful friends here - almost everyone seems overwhelmingly friendly!
