My problem with this whole thing is that she doesn't seem to be doing this to come out with it as a way to do anything else than to make some money off of her family's notorious dysfunction.
Why did she do this? It's not for punitive reasons--her father's been dead for nearly a decade and he can't only confirm or deny it, he can't be punished for it if it's even true. It doesn't seem to be in order to help people going through similar tragedies; if that was the case she would have worked with an organization like RAINN. She even could have used her appearance on Oprah on that angle--since Ms. Winfrey has been very open about her history of abuse. Why does her confession happen to center around her book's release?
