I came from a school of 700 (and a grad class of 60) to a school of 30, 000 so I knew joining a sorority would be an excellent way to meet people. So it was definately local and I totally meshed with my chapter; I wasn't concerned with the whole international thing, I justed wanted to find a sorority at UBC that I fit in with.
It's just an added bonus that I have met sisters from other chapters and become good friends with them
