Rush is like sausage
(Someone had posted elsewhere that rush is like sausage, meaning that one doesn't really want to know what goes into it.)
2) The "Lilly Pulitzer" reference is to a highly recognizable style / brand of dresses, etc., that's popular at some SEC schools and at "truly preppy" schools elsewhere. In general, the patterns are wildly colorful, and the prices tend to be toward the upper end of "moderate" ($250 or a little more or a little less for a sundress type of thing, I think.)
3). So the idea -- if there was one, which I'm beginning to doubt -- was to say that sausage casings (skins, whatever) aren't in Lilly Pulitzer patterns, therefore rush isn't like sausage.
