Since I went to U of Michigan and was there when it all happened, I guess Ill tell.
You are referring to George Cantor, the father of Courtney Cantor who died tragically.
Courtney was had just recieved a bid from (I can say the names of the orgs. cuz pretty much thousands know and I respect both not to bash them) Chi Omega. On the day of their carry-in ( a Michigan tradition were fraternities carry new members over the threshold of the sorority's house and vice versa) with Phi Delt, Phi Delt later held a party for them at their house where Courtney was last seen drinking.
Sometime (I think around 2am) she returned to her 6th floor dorm room and somehow fell out of her window on a trash compactor. She was still alive when they got her to the hospital but died. Anyways, her father has sued Michigan and Phi Delt for the following reasons

--Phi Delt--
He says that they were the cause of her daughter getting drunk and that someone slipped GHB into her drink. Plus minors bought the alcohol with a fratenity check and were caught on tape at the liquor store handing it to the clerk. Its true that she was last seen drinking there, however a doctor stated that the amounts of GHB she had in her body were amounts that the body can make on its own (cuz it does) ALSO that her B.A level was no where near the the limit (much lower then .10 or .08) that even though she was intoxicated she wasnt to gone to not know what she was doing.

He says that the windows in the dorm were not safe and didnt work properly. After further investigation from boths sides, the windows were found to be perfectly suitable and in proper working condition. I have even seen the windows and truthfully about 99% of the people even for Courtney's small stature, will tell you that there is NO WAY she could have fell out on her own, its impossible. He also sued the maker of her loft saying it was hazardous, but after investigation it was found that the loft had nothing to do with it and that if she had fallen from her loft out the window as their sided stated, this was impossible because of the height of the window and the loft and where it was.

-- Chi Omega--
This one is new to me. In my remaining 2 years after it happened, he never went after Chi-O, even though their Nationals did come in. The only specualtions I can make from this is that there were rumors flying that the girls has been drinking (champagne)at the Chi-O house wayy before the carry-in started. Its a possibility that if GHB was put into her system that it could have been done there. And no sorority except for Sigma Kappa for some odd reason, is allowed to have any alcohol in their houses. So he might be going from reckless endangerment of a minor against them. I dont know. Cantor once stated that his daughter had never had a drink before college. Her friends stated otherwise. It might be easier to go after Chi O now also since her older sister ( a junior at the time) was in Chi-O , but after everything happened about 4 mos later they pulled her out fo UM.

If you ask anyone at UM, even anti and non greeks majority will tell you that Phi Delt got shafted. Yeah they were just dumba$$es for having minors buy the alcohol ESPECIALLY using a fraternity check. All the evidence seem to point that Phi Delt had nothing to do with it and with the Chi O rumors flying around many were mad that nothing happened to Chi-O while Phi Delt got automatic termination and 10 of there members were arrested and some are doing time and some have probation.
Most people also think that Cantor was pushed out the window. It seems that her roommate who was there when Cantor got back, cant recall where she was for 2 hours when Cantor died. She told police and university officials that she went to the bathroom. I dont know. Others think it was a possible suicide. No one will probably ever know.

Its just a really unfortunate tragic event that happened. Not only did it change Greek policies but university policies also. Phi Delt is back on campus now and people still hold much respect for both the Chi-O and Phi Delt organizations as they should. She was from what some people said a sweet girl who will be missed (especially by her pledge class and friends who are current seniors).
