This reminds me of that episode of Friends where Phoebe refuses to go to the dentist because every time she does, someone who she knows dies.
I must admit that when one of my friends first told me "John Hughes died," I felt like I should know who she was talking about, but it didn't click... until she mentioned two of his movies, and then I remembered.
