and much of their middle-eastern involvement was to counteract British involvement - their colonization of the proposed "palestinian" segment of the British division plan as an example. They colonized - it's not like this was humanitarian involvement. Also - what the hell does north african involvement decades ago have to do with the stance taken by the link in the OP?

I completely agree with your statements on French views of Americans, esp american tourists - I think parts of your historical justification might be a stretch.
