Im currently a sophomore in college and the sorority life has always interested me. However, i based my choice on the stereotypes and not really doing much research like i should have. I was told that because of my tom-boyish, laid back attitude that i would fit in with Delta Sigma Theta. so i took it into consideration and did alot of research on them and got to know them and they are very nice. But as i did research i found out that their founders were members of Alpha Kappa Alpha and that their founding date was practically given to them. I was always interested in Alpha Kappa Alpha but i felt like i wouldnt fit in because i wasnt the "prissy" type that i thought all members were. so i spent most of my time with the deltas so now i feel as though my chances of joining the chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha on my campus are ruined because i even went to a Delta interest meeting. But my dilemma is that im having trouble making a firm decision. I know what i can offer both sororities, but the main problem is that i started off interested in one sorority and now i would like to join another. did i ruin my chances??

*I have 3.4 GPA, I am very confident, and I volunteer in my free time. My life is very much so balanced between work, social life and my love life. But i feel like my credibility is shot out because of my prior interest in Delta Sigma Theta.
First, this is way too much info for a public message board (ever heard of discretion?) and while you may not be trying to offend, you're leaning in that direction...big time. You clearly need to do more research if finding out this information is the only thing encouraging you to look in a different direction and leave the hearsay and stereotypes out of it. What's true for one chapter may not be true of another. And you also need to research all of the sororities, not just two. That is how people end up making mistakes and years later they come on greekchat and complain that they're in the wrong org because they didn't research all their options...yadda, yadda, yadda. This is a life decision so make it an informed one.
