I believe they may have spent more time on the actual features and specifications than the actual design. I cannot see many people going for a screen that is so "cheap" looking, personally. But there are many out there that prefer the sony walkman over the ipod touch.
I love my ipod touch/iphone, and I will never leave it. I too, am satisfied lol
