Maybe so. I do think that message boards call for just a little bit more formality than text messages. Especially for someone in the OP's position. No one is going to give her advice on how to join their organizations if she does not present herself as someone who is desirable for recruitment. Or at the very least, proper attention to grammar won't hurt her, whereas obviously it has hurt her as her thread has been completely hijacked by the grammar police.
