My thinking was that the island was punishing each Lostie by taking away what they wanted from the island which made them want to go back. For Sun it was Jin, so now she has to wait longer to see him. As for Lapidus and Ben, im not too sure. You could argue though that lapidus and the rest of the plane were not ment to crash there in that time.
