I took a class in public speaking last semester. It may seem like a waste of time, but trust me, it will do you a world of good. I'll give you a little practical advice.
Know your topic. Know whatever it is that you are talking about as well as you possibly can. That way, your speech will be more like a conversation between you and the audience and not just you reading to them from a piece of paper.
Also, if possible, speak about something that you are passionate about. You will be more likely to accomplish the goal of the speech (inform or persuade your audience) if you really care about the topic. Your audience will be able to tell that you take the topic seriously.
Try your best to relax. Do whatever it takes. Deep breaths, meditating, whatever. Relax and just speak. I used to pretend that I was speaking casually to just one or two people in the audience.
