The "back in the day" thread reminded me of this...
My parents set very strict limits on my TV watching when I was in elementary and middle school. One hour per day, and I had to have finished my homework.
My folks both worked, but I had a babysitter, and the babysitter could and did rat me out. One day (I think I was 7 or so), the sitter ratted me out to my father, and never mind that my homework was all finished before my folks got home - my father beat me for disobeying his orders.
I learned my lesson: DON'T GET CAUGHT. After that, I did as much homework as possible before my afternoon cartoons came on, snuck into my dad's office, watched the cartoons on his old TV, and then went back to my room and finished my homework.
