I just thought that as a newcomer to GC I would share my story. I am actually in the process of applying for the grant. My mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1979. Her case developed rather slowly at first, and she was able to fulfill many of the duties that moms do, even though she was a single mom doing this all on her own. In the past 6 months, my mom's health began to deteriorate. I decided at the end of my freshman year that I would stay in Macon to take care of my mom in case anything ever happened to her. I am glad that I did because right before finals at the end of fall semester she got to where she could barely walk (this is what happens with MS. if you know nothing about it, drop me a note and i will tell you). As an only child and a full time college student, I could not take care of her the way she needed to be cared for, so she went into a nursing home on February 8. Since then, all of my money has gone towards paying off bills that were hers, and the utilities at our house until it sells (which could be awhile). I went to my advisor to ask her what to do about the fall because I know I won't have the money to pay for dues. She called our Province director, who in turn called someone at HQ and they are sending me an application for the grant. This has been a very difficult time and I KNOW that I would never had made it without the support of my sisters, especially my big sis Nickole.

~Just thought I would share my story. For anyone who reads this. always remember that your sisters will always be there. There is nothing that they won't do for you; all you have to do is ask!
