1.) Search the recruitment threads here. There are many asking this exact same question.
2.) Go to Phiredup.com. Live by it.
3.) From the site, buy the book "I Heart Recruitment"
4.) Secret: Advertisements won't attract people to your events. Getting your name OUT isn't as important as getting names IN. Meet people!
5.) Don't talk about your organization! Non-Greeks don't understand what it is, and the funny letters on your shirt mean nothing to them. Have NORMAL conversations.
6.) ... and invite girls to do NORMAL things. Instead of always hosting large informal recruitment events, invite a potential member for coffee, just the two of you. It's a lot less intimidating for them than walking into a room with 10, 20, 50 people that they don't know.
And do this exercise: Have all the sisters take out a pen and paper. Give them 5-10 minutes to write down the names of every non-Greek woman on campus that they know. Even if they don't know their name, but they're "the girl I sit next to in biology who always talks to me," that's fine. You'd be amazed at how many names people write down. After that, tell everyone to take out their cell phones, and have them invite one girl on their list to lunch.. or something similar.
My chapter did this at the end of last semester. 15 sisters all made phone calls. Of those potential members that they had lunch with/went to a movie with/studied with, etc., 6 of them showed up to our recruitment events this semester.
