If there's no zoom button, the zoom function is buried somewhere in your menu. What model cable box do you have? If you can a .pdf of the user's manual (should be available on the manufacturer's website), you should be able to figure out where the zoom feature is and how to turn it off.
He sounds like he has the type of box that is a generic box that doesn't allow for anythign BUT broadcasting cable and no way to control the settings...


Ree-xi - it's a common issue that boxes resets happen believe it or not as all channels and all shows aren't broadcasting in 720p or 1080i/p as quiet as kept, DTV at the max right now can ONLY broadcast at 1080i
Mostly it resets based on the channell your TV is on. I would recommend that you call your cable provider and see if they have an updated firmware or an updated box they can replace for you.
