My daughter had this same situation her last year in HS. I KNEW he had a crush, but she insisted,"Oh, we're just friends."
It wasn't anything "passionate", just one of those things. If the guy is really involved with outside activities and has to MAKE TIME to call, then I'd think SOMETHING is there. However, if he's a video game junkie or watches TV a lot and hangs around his "home" quarters, it could be that he really likes just talking to you, and it IS friendship. Consider WHAT you talk about as well.
