So far, we are up to 7 or 8 of his crowd going through recruitment.
Three have sisters in sororities and I know they are influenced by the stories they hear and the pictures they see. The others are most likely going to do it because they are friends. I just hope they don't try to go for a "package" deal on this. They have been friends since GRADE SCHOOL!!! Their loyalty is INTENSE! They are ALL great guys. At this point, I'm just happy to see the interest and hoping it grows stronger. The class ahead of them will have several wanting to join a fraternity as well. This is a complete 180 from the class of '99. Is it just the South? Are other areas seeing an increase in interest? I hear how numbers are down, but they are rising in our corner of the world. For my son, besides the obvious trappings, he likes the idea of the network and a bunch of "buddies". I just want him to find a place where the majority of the members are seeking a professional career and academics are important. Asking too much???
ALL of the older sisters have indicated which fraternities seem to have a "rough" pledgeship, and which ones allow their pledges a bit more "dignity". This will greatly influence their decision.
