Maybe she changed her mind. Maybe she decided that going back to the Philippines couldn't be worse than marrying this guy. Maybe she had met and fallen in love with a hot, young twenty-something Filipino guy. Maybe she rejected the middle-aged American man's proposal that day. Maybe they argued. Maybe he shoved her into the water in a fit of rage. Maybe I've been watching too much crime dramas on tv.


Pika2001 suggested that a guy wouldn't spend all this money to bring a woman into the US just to drown her. I agree that it is unlikely that someone would go through all that trouble and expense just for the intent of killing her. But if it was a guy with anger issues and the girl had rejected/humiliated/disobeyed/angered him, he might kill the girl in the heat of the moment. Not saying this is what happened, but it could be a possibility. It could also be a possibility that it really was just an unfortunate accident.
