I used to work for my university newspaper, and there have been many incidents inwhich the university would get upset if the newpaper published articles not describing the university as all wonderful. I have mixed opinions. Our school paper recieved money form the university (a part of students fees paid for a subscription of the newspaper), so the school felt they had a right to be upset if certain stories came out. However, there's the freedom of the press and speech.
I think some things can be done with discretion in mind, or taking a different approach to the story (maybe a feature/humanity story instead of a "facts" story)....if a newpaper wants to have the freedoms associated with major newspapers, then they shoud be totally separate from the University....
