True, although I don't understand why this is much of a surprise. Powell has had a slow falling out with the GOP since before he left the Bush administration. It doesn't surprise me that he would endorse the candidate running against the GOP.

All in all it's a low risk endorsement for him. Obama apparently has a huge advantage at this point, and I don't think Powell was going to be trying for a position in any GOP administration.

It will be helpful to Obama, but I'm not exactly shocked by it.
