Possibly that's like asking members to try to avoid taking a class on chapter nights. But sometimes that's unavoidable...she might need more hours or a specific class that is taught only at that time. If that were the case and it were presented to the chapter ahead of time and they still wanted to punish the member then I consider them to be completely against what NPC stands for. I can't imagine a chapter getting away with that though. Class should always be excused. It's reasonable to ask someone to take the class at another time if possible, but sometimes there is a conflict and EDUCATION should ALWAYS take precedence.

For us, jobs were not an excuse. You know months earlier what your workshop schedule will be and you either end your summer job at that time or ask off if it's a year round job. Surely they aren't asking members not to have a job AT ALL in the summer!
