Wow this has been an excellent discussion. I appreciate the comments made by Professor(spoken like a True Alpha Man ) and my Soror. I think our conversations of this week have gotten way out of hand in some regards, but in other regards it has been good b/c it has caused people to think.
I don't think anyone was ever trying to say that the NPHC should be more important than your organization or the aims of the NPHC should supercede your organization. Rather, the NPHC has seemed to failed to meet it's aim in uniting us as one group. Added to the fact that many of us trivialize it's importance and don't teach our own Sorors and Frat about it. My chapter taught us about other organizations and the NPHC and I feel that I am a more knowledgeable person b/c of it.
I feel very proud that Sister Soror Ideal08 has taken it upon herself to learn more about the NPHC and I have to ^5 her on that. Irregardless of what we learn when we come into our individual organization, the only way we are going to fix problems within the NPHC is by working together(on some things) and putting behind petty differences. Apathy will get us nowhere. At the end of the day, I am ALWAYS going to think that Zeta is DA BOMB, but it would also be nice to say that I felt a sense of satisfaction from seeing the positive interactions btwn other organizations as well. And even more that we worked together to uplift the black community (That idea of having a joint house Professor is DA BOMB! I wished it had worked out....)
Also, please realize that it is fairly difficult to gage what one might have intended behind a computer screen. Often times people you might think are the devil incarnate, are the sweetest, most pleasant people you could ever meet. Before we jump to our guns ready to do battle, wouldn't it be easier to just send someone a pm and ask them exactly what they meant?
We have come a long way, but we have a loooooooooooong way to go.
Have a Blessed Day!
M
