If you list ABC and DEF only, there is a risk that you could go bidless. I am with WinniBug though, "If you don't want XYZ AT ALL, then don't rank them on your pref card.". I would rather be bidless, than have a bid from a group that I didn't want.

Once you are extended a bid, you are ineligible for 1 year. However, if you are bidless, I believe you are eligibile for COB / COR ("snap bids"). If your 2 favorite groups have made quota though, they will not be able to extend a bid to you.
