I carried my cell phone in my pocket all afternoon, waiting to hear from Carrie.
Finally, a text message!
Carrie was a new member of…..

Kappa Alpha Theta!

I was especially thrilled, because 29 years before (at the archrival school,) I had also pledged Theta!!

Carrie called later that night and explained that she had wanted to be a Theta all along, but had tried to talk herself out of it because she wanted to do her own thing. But in the end, she realized it honestly was her first choice, legacy or not. Since then, one of the most special moments we’ve shared was when I surprised her by participating in her initiation ceremony. Tears flowed all around (all together now, “Awww….”) and she didn't even puke once!
