You know, even though Miami is competitive, they have a history of taking Sophomores. It will still be tough to get a bid from maybe the top maybe 5 chapters, but there are many other very strong chapters that would love to have you.
Do you currently have friends in chapters? If so, maybe they can tell you what percentage of their pledge classes were sophomores. More importantly, keep up your grades, get your recs and make sure you are involved.
Even though it's a state school, a huge percentage of students are from outside of Ohio. I know the sororities heavily recruit from the Chicago area, particularly Lake Forest. A lot also come from the DC region.
Even though I didn't graduate from Miami, I did attend it for a short time (didn't pledge there, but I did rush). When I was there, ALL of the chapters took sophomores but recruitment was then held in the fall.
