I'm sure other chapters were taught, as mine was, to be nice and treat everyone well because even if that PNM wasn't a fit for the chapter, we might love their roommate/hallmate/HS friend and we don't want them to say they felt uncomfortable or rejected at our house.

To play devil's advocate, it could be that the rushers were new sisters who just didn't understand "bumping" or hadn't gotten enough practice in rush in general. I don't think it's always rudeness or disinterest.
