One of the most ignorant things I heard:
I was taking a history class about the United States from the Revolutionary War period until just after the Civil War. My professor spent an ENTIRE class session dissecting slavery – why it was merely an economic system that got a bad reputation. He even ventured to say that he had conversations with many Blacks today who (after "extensive study") respected slavery for the financial powerhouse it was and wished its practice had been extended longer.
This is a predominately white university in the South. Even my white classmates were looking at our professor like

. Several students raised their hands to comment or ask questions but were never called on. A few even walked out early, shaking their heads.
