There are many ways for a member to have constant reminders of the oath he took and the path he chose, such as donating money to his chapter or the Educational Foundation, by being active in an area or chapter alumni association, contributing to a newsletter, serving on a house corporation or as High Pi, or as a mentor, or on an alumni advisory board, or volunteering to edit the Cross & Crescent or the website. The list goes on.

There are many things of substance that can really make a difference, and they are constant reminders of what we signed up for, and of a lifetime commitment.

I have nothing against tattoos and I don't even mind if someone is dumb enough to burn himself with a hot poker, but it's a poor substitute for actually doing something meaningful.

Saying "I branded myself to show how devoted I am" is a bunch of nonsense as far as I'm concerned, and demonstrates a complete lack of understanding.
