On to preference round! After recovering from my disappointment from being cut from Minnie and my annoyance at Sara for emailing me, I got ready for my pref parties. A girl from my rush group was also attending Dewey for her first party, so we met up and walked over together. She was deciding between Louie and Dewey, but was really hoping for Louie.
When we go to the Dewey house it was somewhat of a repeat from the night before with the rushee attitudes. To give Dewey some credit, their ceremony was very nice and they had beautiful flowers everywhere (to say what kind would probably give away the chapter). The funny thing was, I didn’t really feel like the Deweys wanted me to join their chapter. Maybe they new that in the long run, unless they had a stellar rush that year they would be closing their doors. I don’t know what it was. One mean spirited girl was being particularly rude at my table asking about parties, mixers and drinking. All those things seemed so inappropriate at a pref ceremony that I couldn’t help but be really nice to my rusher.

After Dewey’s ceremony was over I headed over to Mickey. (!!!) I was happy to see that my t.v. buddy from the night before was waiting for me! We were talking so much and she asked if I had a tough decision that night. I said not really since Mickey was my first choice. (There I went again with the too much information!) She looked happy and said she was glad I felt that way! I wasn’t sure what to make of it, but it seemed to be a positive thing. The ceremony was really pretty and all the girls looked really lovely. I also talked to another girl I had spoken with before who, strangely, looked like she could be my sister! I forgot to mention that before. All the girls I spoke to at Mickey kept saying "Gosh you look so much like ______!" We really did look a lot alike. Anyway, so she was very sweet as well. I left thinking I belonged at Mickey and hoped they felt the same.

Because I didn’t have a third party I went to meet with my rush counselor right away. I asked her if I had to put Dewey on my card if I didn’t want a bid from them. She said that in order to be considered for quota additions I would have to put them down. I had no idea what a quota addition was at the time, but it sounded like I should put Dewey on my bid card. But I was worried that if Mickey didn’t extend me a bid, I would potentially be committing to Dewey and taking the place of another girl who may have really wanted Dewey. I stood there for about 15 minutes and then wrote Mickey as number 1 and Dewey as number 2. I handed it to my rush counselor and left quickly so I couldn’t change my mind.

We had been told that we would get a call by a certain time if we didn’t receive a bid from any chapter. I didn’t get a call so I knew I must have received a bid. But was it to Dewey?
