I would recommend talking to the greek adviser on campus. He or she can tell you if seniors are not counted against quota. The school where I advise makes seniors "free" so more upperclasswomen can get placed. (I hope that is the case for you, too).

As far as why you waited, I would simply state that for family and personal reasons you were unable to make the commitment to an organization previously. But now you are ready, willing and able! Additionally, I would definitely let them know that you will be on campus for 2 or 3 more years, so they understand that you want to be a fully participating member of their organization. (At some schools there are issues of upperclasswomen pledging only for the "resume" bragging rights).

Also, membership in a sorority is a lifetime commitment, so, although you may only have 2 or 3 years as a member in college, you will have a lifetime as an alumna.
