it won't ever happen unless it is assigned to a couple with strong enough technique IN BALLET to do it. It has nothing to do with the 5 hours of rehearsal; it's the technique you bring into that rehearsal. You can't fake it. Same reason they don't have tap. They just wouldn't be able to do it justice.
Years ago when I was doing The Nutcracker, I was assigned a partner one year who's technique in ballet was horrendous (it was a non-profit, they took any guy available). Even after
months of rehearsals, he did not have the technique to support me. I was lucky I wasn't severely injured. When the same role was offered to me again the next year, I declined because he would have been my partner again. He made me look terrible and I didn't want a broken neck.
They may have allowed Rayven to do it had she stayed, but Jessica (few seasons back) was better than Rayven and only had the chance to do so during her solo. IMO Will is the only male capable of a classical pas, and Katee would be my guess as to has had the most ballet, though that doesn't necessarily mean her pointe work is great. Courtney - absolutely not. You can see it in her technique and carriage. Though I'm open to her surprising me.
I'm okay with them forgoing couples' routines in ballet, but please for heaven's sake, bring in some NYCBallet, American Ballet Theatre or Pacific Northwest Ballet as a guest on results night!
ETA: They should bring back DANNY and Jessica for a pas! That would be fab. =)
