There's nothing wrong with wearing hose with open-toed shoes (especially in a Canadian climate), as long as you have sandel foot or shadow toe hose - heck, that's why they make them.
Also I like to wear nude or beige coloured panty hose during the winter months because between november and april I am so pale and it keeps my legs and toes warm during those slightly below zero days

On another note: dark hose and light coloured shoes - don't do that. I saw a girl earlier this year with balck pantyhose and silver strappy sandels on...
