If I may express my opinion, this stuff is getting to be a little much. It seems every day there's something on TV or in the papers about our fallen soldiers, fallen police officers, fallen firefighters. Honoring our heroes is fine and it's necessary, but done too much it becomes numbing, not to mention depressing. We have holidays such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day for such recognition.

The Fourth of July should be a happy time to celebrate the courage our country's founders had when declaring our independence (the fighting came later), and it should be celebrated as such. In my opinion morbidly including accounts from much later wars is gratuitous and inappropriate.

With the economy the way it is - and it's going to get worse - we need a little happiness, and we better learn how to be happy in spite of the weepiness that is so prevalent these days.

The articles and the stories they tell were great, don't get me wrong. They just appeared in the wrong issue.

Celebrate this weekend. Have a Happy Fourth of July!
