I always try to spend between $25 - $30. And especially now, since DH just got back to work after being out on worker's comp for 3 months.
My DH thinks I made us look cheap because I didn't want to go in halves on a $100 stroller. And, this couple is very much unlike your "unmaterialistic" friends.
I asked if another couple could go in on it with us, and instead of dividing it 3 ways, they just cut us out instead, which I really don't understand.
(I even have a feeling that their wedding gift for us was a regift)
