Wow...I'm not sure why you are attacking me. I actually do not believe that violence is any worse now than it ever was...there is PLENTY of evidence that the national media focuses so much on any violent act in any small town that we've come to think that violence is more prevalent today than in the past. The truth is, violence and crime go in cycles. Violence was more prevalent in NYC in the 80s and 90s. It's much less prominent this decade. Crime is up in Baltimore where I live. Gang related crime, which plagued north Louisiana throughout the 90s (California gangs followed I-20 over on drug routes and became the most numerous members of the death row crowd in short order) has significantly decreased. The nurses in our ICUs at LSU in Shreveport used to bar the doors to the unit when a gang member was admitted because gang members from rival gangs were trying to beat down the doors! Sexual abuse, child abuse have been rampant for years. From the perspective of someone with YEARS of experience in a level 1 Trauma center, this increase in violence is overblown. Things that have increased are the abuse of prescription drugs, the number of people sustaining severe burns while cooking crystal meth and motor vehicle crashes.
