Considering how little Kerry actually does for MA, Kennedy's importance is especially high. He also is well-known for being a great boss to his staff (again, the opposite of Kerry, who treats his staff poorly) Sen. Kennedy expects a lot, but treats his staff members very well, and has been known to help them a great deal as they advance in their careers. It's a big reason you'll never see a tell-all about Kennedy's life; his staff is loyal, for good reason.
Hopefully the quick medical response will mean good things for his recovery.

I know lots of people who've worked for Kennedy and they all pretty much adore him. As a reporter, I like him a lot - I spend too much time trying to track down members of Congress who either refuse to talk to press or feed me bullshit. He's always accommodating and gives straight answers.
Anyway, Kennedy seemed to be in fine form in Thursday's Senate session - ranting on the floor about Republican efforts to block a bill giving collective bargaining rights to public safety officers. Last I heard was that he seems to be doing better and they're just waiting to see test results.
