students who preach inaccurate 'facts' about their history to people who don't know it.
prime example my soc class, there is only one Black student (he was mixed with Mexican), the prof asked what "black culture" was in order to prove how much assignment has been given to Blacks/African Americans and how essentialized these assignments are...some kid says 'rap'

...I say 'religious institutions like the A.M.E. church and the Nation of Islam"...this dude..again keep in mind he is the only Black student in class and the class is full of white freshmen from isolated areas of the country...
he goes on to say "but the Nation of Islam came out of rap music so they intertwine" I am like

I couldn't tell him anything cause it would've seemed like I was trying to teach him about his own history, I eventually told him it was inaccurate and he took it lightly, the white students responded with 'wow, I did not know that!'..so now they're going around thinking the NOI is a product of rap music *SMH* The Nation of Islam has been around since the 1930's...Rap came about in the 80's brotha!!!
