I would have liked to read her full opinion piece before forming an opinion. But I'm not going to do that.....
From the quote in the article, she could have kept that opinion to herself. This is especially the case when she inserted her opinion on homosexuality as a choice before she even got to the civil rights victim issue. Two debatable topics that can be interpreted negatively.
You don't have to think that all oppressions are equal (I certainly don't) but anyone who understands what minority group oppression means should know that homosexuals are discriminated against in certain contexts. Therefore, they are 'civil rights victims" in certain contexts. However, sexual orientation is not as evident in the same context that race, gender, and class are. When discussing this it should be discussed in a scholarly manner, even if it is an op-ed piece. I don't know if she did that but she certainly spoke from the perspective of a "black woman" and that can be interpreted either way.
