well there is a difference between words that you find tasteless/tacky and words that make you cringe. "ointment" just has an awful sound to it but doesnt really offend (unless youre only telling the story halfway

but i know what you mean - my staff a couple of years ago couldnt do the word "moist" (it was from a list of words a staff member HATED and it stuck) and over time, we grew to dislike "donut" (we had a staff development meeting and some guy was making this horrible analogy involving a donut - he'd pronounce it doooooooe-nut, dragging out that first syllable - it was insane!)
