First... Can we please seriously stop attacking people on here who's post may not always be positive?? Its really starting to get annoying. It seems over the past couple of months the attacks have grown and not just for negative post but making simple mistakes in not getting a national groups policies right, saying the wrong word, posting the wrong way. People make mistakes and sometimes you just can't sweep issues under the rug just b/c some people dont want to think or hear about it (I know Ive wanted some issue to go away, but thats wrong of me). Sheesh.
I think this was a good thing to post. Yes, the subject of hazing has been brought up constantly, but being Greek what do you expect. Its not going to go away unless the system does. The only way to make ppl understand something,or bring solutions to a problem is to talk about the negative. And sometimes you're just going to have to keep drilling it into ppls heads.
The reasons for hazing are obvious. For some orgs. being hazed is like sharing a more intimate brotherhood/sisterhood. I went through, the people befor me and after have. Its a bonding thing. The term "I feel your pain" goes nicely here. Then I know for some its an insecurity thing. To me groups that haze are one that have many people who feel left out and like they dont belong (especially if you'll let someone do some of the things ive heard about to you). Usually with the belonging comes a sense of superiority also. Now these people have "power" and can walk all over people just like they feel people walked all over them. Plain and simeple hazing is to me 99% stupid, with the 1% of me seeing the logic (somewhat) behind the intimate bond reason.
For some who said well why dont you complain to your school about its that big of a problem. Ok, how many of YOU have went and done that? I am 100% positive that pretty much every greek whether its within their chapter or another on their campus have heard either allegations of hazing or know hard core facts that its going on. Has anyone told? Or do we just look the other way and say hey not my chapter, not my problem? Im gonna be honest, and admitt I just say not my problem as Im aure a good majority of us do. If that wasnt the case then we wouldnt have that whole thread about hazing stories on your campus. I could report a chapter now ("friend" was dumb enough to tell us about it. Hi, defeats purpose dipSh!t).
Finally, I dont think its easier for locals to get away with hazing per se, but a better way to say is that the punishment would be more harsh for an National org. I have heard from plenty of member of NPC's, NIC's and NPHC's who's chapters haze and the schools know, but somehow it slips by thier headquarters. I know of some locals that do have governing bodies and I think it would be nice if someone in a local here could imform us of how, if any, their governing bodies work? Who they have to report to. Educate us Nationals for once
If this sounded like a bitch...well it was meant too cuz Ive officially become annoyed with these attacks. So there!
