EUR's Discussion about TWEET

From today's EUR:
STREETWATCH
I Looked Over To The Left ...

I looked over to the left...

…and tried to figure out why everyone is making such a fuss over
the song "Oops (Oh My) from newcomer Tweet. So the girl came
home at a quarter to three and wanted to "handle her business"
by herself instead of making a booty call. Since when is that
a crime? Well, maybe in some Bible belt states…

I looked over to the left…

…and thought, Tweet is the new millennium Joycelyn Elders the
former Surgeon General who was roundly criticized by the right
wing, called a freak and was ultimately fired by a reluctant
President Clinton for just suggesting that students be
taught about "Oops (Oh My)" as a form of safe sex.

I looked over to the left…

…and wondered why radio personalities (male and female alike)
call this song "nasty" or use their "controversial voice" to introduce it? Is it because the girl is by herself, or is there some kind of hidden message we're just missing? We decided to just ask Tweet and settle it once and for all. This is what she said, "The song means self-love and appreciation to me, because I had a problem with my skin color and different things about myself. I decided to write a song that said you can touch yourself, but it doesn't mean sexually. I'm saying stroke your ego, pat your personality. Just love yourself regardless. Even the negative spin radio puts on it doesn't matter because I always tell people who listen to my music to make it theirs. So if people want to be out there and say it's something else for them, let it be that."
