As another sista in the engineering field, it really depends on where you are whether or not you have support from other sistsas. In my company, there are numbers of sista engineers (including my own mother!) and many sorors in that large group. Some of my most staunch supporters are sistas but I could not have positioned myself as well without the support of my boss (white female) and others in my area (white males, hispanic males). To answer your question, Yes you can succeed but you may not be happy without that natural connection.
