Things dont to "have" to change at all. There is nothing wrong with maintaining a close friendship with someone else in your chapter.
When I joined, I already knew (and absolutely loved!) the girl who introduced me to my chapter in the first place. The semester I joined, I was definitely bummed because I wanted her to be my Big Diamond, but someone else got me. Even though she wasn't my big, even 4 years after college we are still super close (best friends even), so there is nothing wrong with having a close friendship with someone.
Sometimes bigs/littles don't even click very well. I didn't have a whole lot of anything in common with my big... but it's all good.. she's a great person and definitely made me feel welcome and we did hang out, but we never got that "super close" vibe that other pairs got. In the end it's OK with me because I'm still super close to others that were in my chapter.
