The OP never said that she couldn't pay the dues, she commented they were a little high. I'm sure her mother and aunt have already informed her of the basics of sorority dues and finances, even though they are not pushing her to pledge their sorority.
During recruitment, what sister would say, "Oh, our dues are higher because our Treasurer isn't good at managing the books". You would never know that until you pledged. Also, knowing from her post that they don't have houses, it couldn't be for that large sunroom addition to the chapter house

point is that she shouldn't outrule a chapter based solely on their dues.
