He and I express our expectations to one another so if either or both of us expect to receive something on the day of and more on that weekend when we celebrate more extensively, then that's what it is and it isn't too much to ask as far as we're concerned.
That can sometimes depend on the timing (i.e. if someone's out of town) and the occasion, though.
