Random rant: Why can't people read or follow instructions?

For real.

I am the chairwoman for a community group and I have to send out a lot of e-mail notices to a group of about 100. The last couple of months have gone like this:

My e-mail to the whole group: "Don't forget that there will be a general meeting on Friday, January 11th at 6pm in the cafeteria at Madison High School! Bring your 2008-2009 budget copies and a calculator as we will be reviewing budget recommendations."

Public response from Susie Member: "I will be there on the 11th; but, what time is the meeting?"

Me: "It's at 6pm in the cafeteria."

Public response from Joe Member: "I can't make it. When is the next one?"

Me: "I'm sorry to hear you can't make it. We meet on the second Friday of every month; so, will be meeting again on 2/8 and 3/14 at the same place and time. Just as an FYI - I think there is going to be some painting in the cafeteria on 3/14, so we may have to move to the library in March. I'll let everyone know if that's the case."

Public response from Liz Member: "Are we meeting in the library this time? What time is the meeting?"

Me: "No, this next meeting is in the cafeteria. It's still at 6pm."

Liz Member again: "Oh ok. Do you want us to bring anything?"

Me: "Yes, a calculator and your copy of the budget. Please see my original message quoted below to review all of the details."

I mean, seriously. If you had a question, wouldn't you have gone back to the original message to look for the answer? If someone else asks a public question and a public response is given; wouldn't you expect others to see it and not repeat the same questions? Why do people do this?

Someone help me out here.

.....Kelly
