I know of a guy who was a pledge off-and-on for SIX YEARS. No joke; the guy pledged before I started college, and was ultimately initiated after I had graduated.
Rather an extreme case, but depending on the org, it's entirely possible.
Unless, of course, you were asked to depledge on account of putting an airsoft gun up to a brother's temple and screaming at him. (Same house.)
